Shortly before the holidays some folks brought up the idea of having a 2nd raid group, running on different nights. This was and is a great idea, that allows for those who prefer to raid on other days, a more convenient schedule, additionally allowing those with alts to get in on raiding as well.
With the holidays, we always expect some level of attrition in the guild as the normal raiding schedule is interrupted with pleasantries like family, parties, celebrations, etc. Now that we’ve been back to our normal raiding schedule for roughly a month, we’ve seen pretty clearly what effect this has had, which allows us to plan accordingly.
There has been an initiative to bring in new players, groups, and even guilds to help build out a full, well-rounded, 2nd 40-player raid team. We have had some successes, but not at the rate needed to move on this quickly. Turnout for the 2nd raid group thus far has been varied, but trending on the lower side, to the point where some nights we’ll have anywhere from 5-8 players on that do not have a raid lockout. The activity just isn't there.
For those of you who have been with us since the beginning of Classic, we’ve mentioned that Wed/Thurs nights were going to be our raid nights (tentatively) with the possibility of adding a 3rd night, based on demand. A discussion has taken place among myself and the officers about where we are, where we’d like to be, and how we’d like to get there. What we have come up with is as follows:
- Rather than focus on the creation of a 2nd 40-player raid group, add a 3rd raid night (Friday or Saturday, based on guild vote using the new sign-up system)
- With the release of BWL on Feb 12th, Wed/Thurs will be focused solely on this content
- MC will run on the 3rd raid night
- Alts will be allowed
- Loot will be rolled on (Mains over Alts)
- Some “key/high-demand” items will still be distributed via Loot Council
- Onyxia will be run as available
The thought process here is that, as new content is released, BWL, ZG, AQ20/40, Naxx, there will always be a demand for older content. With certain raids like ZG (and AQ20?) resetting every 3 days, there is a potential for there to be something going on all the time.
We will need at least 3 days in the short-term to make sure that we’re clearing all of the available content in the game. When ZG comes out, I’m sure we’ll be running it on off-nights (or scheduling them out, we’ll have to see). The point is, rather than having 80-90+ people and attempting to manage such a large number, let’s see what we can do with the available content and scheduling, to maximize everyone’s participation instead.
This will be the general plan moving forward, though I absolutely welcome feedback from the team.
Thanks for everything that you all do,
A place to converse all things WoW Classic!
